Go Barrier Free has served southeast Michigan since 1989 with specialties in kitchens, baths, additions and barrier free modifications, wheelchair accessibility and ramps and grab bars. Our company is operated by Gordy Oliva, CAPS, CGR. He is a licensed builder, a Certified Aging in Place Specialist and a Certified Graduate Remodeler with a B.A. from Wayne State University.
The Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) designation was created by the National Association of Homebuilders in partnership with the AARP to provide for the unique needs of older adults or anyone with physical and health limitations. A CAPS professional has expert knowledge in designing and building barrier-free environments. A Certified Graduate Remodeler(CGR) is also a designation that requires technical competence, responsible business practices and a solid track record of customer satisfaction. Maintaining the CGR and CAPS designations requires continued industry specific education, licensing, insurance and adherence to a strict code of ethics.
As a Michigan Corporation, we maintain membership in the, National Association of Home Builders, Michigan Association of Home Builders, Building Industry Association of Southeastern Michigan were Gordy serves on the Executive Board of the Remodelers Council, Executive Board member of the Senior and Caregiver Resource Network and a member of the Berkley Area Chamber of Commerce.
Community involvement is also a vital part of Gordy’s professional and personal life. He is President of the Berkley Schools Instrumental Boosters, Manager for South Oakland County Youth Soccer and, with his wife and 3 kids, has fun along the way as a swim dad, soccer dad, rugby dad, baseball dad, and marching band dad. .
